چکیده
conclusions the present study supported the contamination with t. gondii as a risk factor for schizophrenia just in women. results the analyses confirmed the significant differences between healthy women and ones with schizophrenia (p = 0.001) as well as between males and females with schizophrenia (p = 0.009) in igg positivity. materials and methods t. gondii igg antibodies of 100 patients with schizophrenia as well as 200 healthy volunteers were assessed. the subjects also completed demographic questionnaires. data was analyzed using the chi-square and fisher exact tests. objectives the current study aimed to determine the association between t. gondii exposure and the risk of schizophrenia. background schizophrenia is a major psychiatric disorder with a deeply destructive pathophysiology. there are evidences to indicate that infectious agents such as toxoplasma gondii may play some roles in etiology of the disorder.

There are evidences to indicate that infectious agents such as Toxoplasma gondii may play some roles in etiology of the disorder. OBJECTIVES The current study aimed to determine the association between T. gondii exposure and the risk of schizophrenia. MATERIALS AND METHODS T. gondii IgG antib...

cline; however, results from another large surveillance study of 1531 isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae, collected in the United States during the winter of 1999–2000, found that 25.9% of isolates were resistant to macrolides and 16.4% were resistant to tetracycline [6]. In another US study, resistance to tetracycline and to macrolides was 20% and 34%, respectively [7]. Since doxycycline is,...

Recent epidemiologic studies indicate that infectious agents may contribute to some cases of schizophrenia. In animals, infections with Toxoplasma gondii can alter behavior and neurotransmitter function. In humans, acute infection with T. gondii can produce psychotic symptoms similar to those displayed by persons with schizophrenia. Since 1953, a total of 19 studies of T. gondii antibodies in p...
متن کاملToxoplasma gondii and other risk factors for schizophrenia: an update.
The failure to find genes of major effect in schizophrenia has refocused attention on nongenetic, including infectious factors. In a previous study, antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii were found to be elevated in 23 studies of schizophrenia (OR 2.73; 95% CI 2.10-3.60). The current study replicates this finding with 15 additional studies (OR 2.71; 95% CI 1.93-3.80) and compares this with other iden...
متن کاملSchizophrenia, Inflammation and Toxoplasma gondii Infection
Genetic analysis suggests that schizophrenia is a polygenetic disease, mostly consisting of common mutations with low risk and rare mutations with higher risks [1]. Although data suggests a strong genetic component to the risk of developing schizophrenia, environmental and/or developmental risk factors also contribute. Currently, there are no interventions that target and mitigate the effects o...
متن کاملSchizophrenia and Toxoplasma gondii: an undervalued association?
The existence of an association between schizophrenia and an infection by the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii has been suspected since the 1950s. Two significant phenomena first garnered the attention of the psychiatric community toward toxoplasmosis, the illness precipitated by an infection of the parasite. Transient symptoms of acute toxoplasmosis sometimes resemble the clinical picture ...
